The exciting idea first came from Mr. Badu Situmorang (one of senior leaders of The Navigators Indonesia). The idea is to gather Indonesian teenagers and some trainers from overseas (mostly from USA) on Summer holiday (which is between June and July). Some activities to do during this program are English lesson, sports or outdoor games, reading the Bible, and sharing testimony - depending on the location of the program.

The first Summer English was held in Philippines (and then to Singapore on the last days) in 2004 with 3 American trainers and 9 Indonesian teenagers as the participants.

The second Summer English was held in Bandung, Indonesia in 2005. The number of the participants increased to 12 teenagers with 3 American trainers.

The third Summer English was coordinated by Jim and Carrie Truax. It was held in Telunas Beach Batam, Indonesia (before that, in Jakarta for a couple days) in 2006, with theme: “The Real Adventure”. There were 21 participants and 4 trainers.

The fourth Summer English was also coordinated by the Truaxes in 2007 with theme “The Secret of Art”. However, it was divided into two group: the first group went to Bali, Indonesia and the second group went to Cambodia for a mission trip. There were 3 trainers who joined both groups.

The fifth Summer English was held in 2008 in Lombok, Indonesia, with theme “Let’s Grow”. There were 12 trainers and more than 30 participants.

The sixth Summer English was held in North Sumatra, Indonesia, in 2009. More than 50 people involved in this event. The theme was “Look to the Rock”.
